Rotary Club of Palm Springs Meeting of February 28, 2018

The meeting was called to order by Prez Nadine Koehler.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Dick Hostrop, the 4-Way Test was led by our visiting Interact President Millinnie Ilustrisimo, and the Invocation was provided by Helene Kalfuss.
We welcomed our Visiting Rotarian, Jack Fitzsimmons from Cloverdale, CA.  Patti Park introduced her guest, James Lindquist, Director of Development at Angel View.  Margie Taft introduced her guest, Jeffrey Rosenberg; and Ed McBride introduced his guests Tad Green and Mike Thompson.
Prez Nadine introduced Erin Graham from Palm Springs High School, who is today's chaperone for the five Interact Club students who are participating in today's 4-Way Test "Student Speaker Contest": Interact President Millinnie Ilustrisimo, Vice President Melina Solis, Secretary Ahmed Nahian, Treasurer Hayden Poulain, and member Christian Flores.  We were privileged to host the contestants for lunch - our future leaders!

Judy Bronstein announced the Progressive Dinner is on Sunday, March 11, with a St. Patrick's Day Theme. Cost is $10, and you can sign up with Barbara Lippert.  Appetizers and cocktails will be at the home of Chris Seidel and Mike Mulcahy, the main  course will be at Judy & Bill Bronstein's home with Ryan & Brad doing the cooking of an Irish dinner; and dessert will be at the home of Jim & Melinda McInerney with an Irish dessert.
Judy also reminded everyone that the Angel View Prom will be held on Saturday, March 24, and volunteers are still needed to help with set-up, dancing with the Angel View participants, and clean-up afterwards.  Judy acknowledged our Interact students will be helping with the program again this year.

Prez-Elect Kathy Weyer began the program today for the annual 4-Way Test "Student Speaker Contest" with our five participating students.

Each student gave a speech incorporating Rotary's 4-Way Test, and all did an outstanding job!!  Thanks for the Rotarians who acted as "Judges" for the contest, because it was a difficult job.

While all of the speeches were thought provoking and at times entertaining, the judges had to rank them. This year the results were: #1 Melina Solis ($200 award), #2 Ahmed Nahian ($100 award), and #3 Millinnie Ilustrisimo ($50 award).

Melina will now go on to the District contest, and we're sure she'll be a wonderful representative of our Interact Club.

Congratulations to all of the participants, we are so proud of each of you.  We also thank Kathy Weyer for her dedication to this contest each year - great job Kathy!

Happy Dollars were provided by today's happy members: Jacque Wachs, Helene Kalfuss, Judy Bronstein, Ed McBride, Susan Ward, Linda Holmes, and Carole Rogers.

The weekly drawing for $24 was won by visitor Tad Green, but he missed the black marble drawing for $194.  (Sorry, Judy!!)

Next week: Prez. Nadine announced that next week's program will be presented by Greg Purdy from the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.
