Rotary Club of  Palm Springs Meeting of May 3, 2017
Prez Jamey Canfield welcomed all…followed by performers, Tim Ellis, Chris Seidel, and Bob Barrett. Nandy Kruger had it easy since we had no visitors or guests….but we love hearing from Nandy, anyway!  We, then, celebrated Arlene Rosenthal’s blue badge presented by co-sponsors Milt Levinson and Dr. Dave Alderman (in spirit).

Frank Peabody thanked Barb Stanford for her excellent planning of our Rotary @ Work Day at the PS Library. Yes, we Rotarians and Interactors disinfected and polished the main rooms and the books/cd’s/toys in the Youth Room. When we left, our library looked and smelled spiffy!

Kathy Weyer hosted Melina Solis, the winner of our Club contest, for the elimination round of the 4 Way speech contest last Saturday. Melina won $200…congrats, Melina, for making PS Rotary proud!

Nadine Koehler led us in singing Happy Birthday, Bob Barrett (we were on key, for once!)…a big 85 today.

Nadine introduced our program speaker, Connie Golds, Executive Director, of Desert’s Best Friend’s Closet.  She enthusiastically told us how they educate and empower clients for success in employment and in life. They collect clothing to provide individualized wardrobe and image assistance to clients seeking jobs.

Clients are referred from various agencies and include military service members entering the job market.  Several Rotarians brought donations.  For those who wish to contribute, the drop off is at their store, located by Sherman’s Deli on Tahquitz. The DBFC has served over 600 clients.

Fine master, Jacque Wachs, in keeping with the Women’s March for Science last week, tested us on…you got it Science. $$$ were received from Bob Elsner, Prez Jamey, Tim Ellis, Andrea Madrigal, Ryan Saunders, Judy Bronstein, Dan Keller, and Bob Barrett. We were so proud that we knew several answers until Jacque informed us that questions were taken from a 2nd grade test!

Happy Dollars were received from Jacque Wachs, Margie Taft, Ryan Saunders, and Prez Jamey

Lucky raffle Sojourner Mike McCauley won a big $17 (again) but not the $129 pot.

Greg Pettis, Cathedral City Councilman and CC Rotarian, will be next week’s speaker.
