Everyday around the world you will find Rotarians making an impact in their community, or half a world away, but one day each year, Rotarians in the US dedicate a specific day to local community projects.  This year Rotarians across the Coachella Valley made time to give back to their community as part of the annual Rotarians at Work Day.

This year, members of the Rotary Club of Palm Springs along with students from the Palm Springs High School Interact Club joined together to execute an intensive book-by-book cleaning at the Palm Springs Public Library.  Due to staffing and budget limitations it is simply not possible for the library to clean the volumes of book that pass through its doors, particularly in the children’s section of the library, so local Rotarians and Interact club members stepped in donning gloves and armed with cleaning solutions and towels and targeted the books, movies and even the playhouse in the library’s children’s section.

Club members joined Mayor Steve Pougnet and Chelsea Clinton as part of the 2015 Clinton Foundation Day of Action in Palm Springs. More than 100 volunteers from the community gathered at the James O. Jessie Highland Unity Center to work on painting projects and to plant 20 fruit trees on the grounds of the community center. The orchard, named in honor of Chelsea Clinton, will serve as a lasting, growing and bountiful part of the community. Residents of all ages participated in the event sponsored by the City of Palm Springs, Desert Regional Medical Center, the Desert Regional Hospital District and others. The Rotary Club of Palm Springs participated by collecting athletic shoes and equipment and bicycles to be distributed to local kids.
The Rotary Club of Palm Springs and Palm Springs Resorts partnered with Norm Parks from the Palm Springs High School Christmas Tree lot, the Agua Caliente Cultural MuseumRuddy's General Store MuseumPalm Springs Fudge & ChocolateCielo Cafe and the Palm Springs Historical Society to bring a few extra Christmas lights to the Village Green downtown.
